Based from the start in the French capitol city, Famaco has offered a rich assortment of premium shoe care products since 1931. As the Latin root of the company name suggests, this traditional family-owned firm stands for quality. Famaco is intent on maintaining the good reputation of French-made shoe care products and shoe accessories.

In 1931 the Parisian Frédéric Pfirter founded his own sophisticated shoe care company from his sixth-floor rented apartment. The company was originally named “Fama,” from the Latin term for “tradition” and “reputation,” values crucial to Pfirter’s business concept. Pfirter had always considered premium leather a natural product, one that could only be sustained with premium care. He developed his first shoe polish bearing this in mind, and in doing so took the first step towards creating Famaco’s comprehensive shoe care range.
The company’s distinctive logo depicts two gentlemen wearing top hats and canes. This design was inspired by a night out: Pfirter was enjoying some libations with a friend when his gaze fell upon the label of the tasty port wine they were drinking. This label featured a man in a top hat, an image that Pfirter lifted for the famous Famaco logo. Although this logo has remained unchanged since the company’s earliest days, the name of the company itself has been changed.
It transpired that there was already an existing company with a similar-sounding name; namely, “Lama”. In order to avoid potential confusion, “Fama” was quickly rebranded as “Famaco”. This initial hiccup did nothing to hinder the success of this French company. Pfirter continually worked on the quality of his shoe care products, building Famaco’s reputation as one of France’s premium shoe care specialists. In 1974 this experienced businessman handed over the company reins to his son Alain, who brought the family-owned Famaco company to international fame with a combination of tradition and innovation.
Today Famaco offers a wide range of premium shoe care products. The comprehensive, traditional Famaco range includes first-rate shoe brushes as well as polishes, suede leather care, and sophisticated shoe cleaning boxes. Whether you wish to clean or protect your shoes, or restore them to their original shine, you can rely upon Famaco to meet the special care requirements of premium full-leather footwear. The secret behind that special Famaco quality lies in the traditional recipe still used to make the company’s shoe care products. This recipe consists of the highest-quality ingredients, including natural beeswax, carnuba wax, and turpentine balsam.
